The installation is made to commemorate the Passenger Pigeon, a bird which once was the most common bird in the USA and is now extinct. The project consists of a group of small, printed flags attached to sticks, and a stone with an inscription.
Barbara Koziel-Gawronski is a multimedia, international artist that emigrated from Poland and now lives in Santa Clarita, California. The themes of her art are ecology and spiritual issues. Currently, she is working with the subject of the extinctions of birds, specifically the Passenger Pigeon.
Location: the Scrub Jay Trail, under an oak tree
