Zone 5 in the City: Art Sustaining Nature

a temporary site-specific installation exhibition

Julie Zemel with Angie Urbina - Car Park

Julie Zemel

Car Park: a site-specific native plant garden within and around a wrecked car with interpretive signage. I propose to reuse this site of decay by filling it with local soil and then creating a native plant garden by transplanting samples of the park’s flowering plants.

Julie Zemel is an artist based in North East Los Angeles. Her installation Thingscape was included in Second Nature, a group exhibition at fette’s gallery in Culver city. She recently curated Here, There and Everywhere a group exhibition that addressed some aspects of bicycle culture at the Bike Oven. Her work has been reviewed in the LA Times, Art US, Art Week, and on Artnet.com.

Location: the left leg of the Butterfly loop trail on a North-facing slope in and around a wrecked and gutted vintage car laying upside-down in a gully.
