Zone 5 in the City: Art Sustaining Nature

a temporary site-specific installation exhibition

Nancy Kyes with Gustavo Orduna - Sphere

Sphere is an installation that suggests oneness, in which the continual diversity we experience arises. Branches found lying on the ground are woven together, in a seemingly random way, to build a larger, recognizable pattern.

Nancy Kyes is a sculptor who mashes and layers and weaves together thousands of found objects. She makes a new material without employing glue or paint, which she then uses to make sculpture. The process mirrors the way nature, on all scales, creates herself: the predetermined and the unpredictable unfolding together to make everything the way it is.

Location: Sited on the butterfly loop trail; going east from the courtyard pond, the trail splits; the southern fork wanders down, heads east again, past a grove of trees in a little dell. SPHERE will be under the trees, in fact, SPHERE is made from the wood lying on the ground at the site. After the grove the trail, heading east again, narrows and turns sharply uphill.
